President Bush said Wednesday that he is not wavering on the deadline for people to apply for drug coverage under a new Medicare program. Despite his resolve, area social service and health care organizations are still calling for an extension.
But social service leaders from Chicago-area organizations such as
Citizen Action, Health and Disability Advocates, and the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans, are saying Medicare Part D is too difficult to understand and the application process is complicated for seniors and people with disabilities.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's Web site urges Part D applicants not to give out their Social Security, Medicare, credit card or bank account numbers to anyone who calls them. Her office is also encouraging applicants to use free, legitimate resources to answer any questions they may have.
