French-style marketplace for Metra station

Five years after the $42 million project was first approved, a French-style marketplace that would sell everything from fresh produce to baked goods finally should open in 2007 at the northern end of the Ogilvie Transportation Center, a developer told the Metra commuter rail service board today.
U.S. Equities Realty of
Chicago early next week will announce two anchor tenants for the 200,000-square-foot street-level space bordered by Lake, Canal, Washington and Clinton Streets, said Robert Wislow, the firm's chairman and chief executive officer.
One tenant will be responsible for the market, which Wislow said would be similar to
Pike Place in Seattle. The other is a national retailer, he said.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Friday revealed that the governor has fired two top personnel aides. Blagojevich also turned over to federal prosecutors evidence that the pair illegally manipulated hiring procedures affecting dozens of job applicants.As CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports, the governor revealed all this as the Chicago Sun-Times was preparing to publish a story about the hiring scandal.

SPRINGFIELD — The disclosure of another secret surveillance program by the Bush administration reverberated in Illinois politics Friday, with Gov. Rod Blagojevich condemning the program while Republicans defended it.
The Democratic governor criticized Bush's collection of data on telephone calls as an alarming invasion of privacy. He called on his Republican opponent, state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, to speak out against the policy.
