Shedd takes mission to RP
Pioneer-Something's about to get fishy in Rogers Park, thanks to a $75,000 grant recently awarded to the Shedd Aquarium to expand its community outreach efforts with a new education initiative.
Yes, Rogers Parkers will soon be hanging out with the fishes through the grant, awarded to the aquarium through Searle Funds from the Chicago Community Trust, 111 E. Wacker Drive.
The initiative, which begins this summer, will provide aquatic science programming, aquarium field trips, and local stewardship opportunities for neighborhood residents who may not have access to the aquarium because of language, cultural, or economic barriers.

Praying for a living wage
Pioneer-Alderman Joseph Moore, 49th, joined about a dozen religious leaders for a Thursday, May 18, prayer vigil outside the City Council chamber just before the Finance Committee began hearing testimony on the proposed "Big Box Living Wage" ordinance.

RP man charged in hit-and-run
Pioneer-A Rogers Park man has been charged in the May 20 hit-and-run death of a four-year-old girl, who was fatally run over as she crossed a Lincoln Park street with her mother and five-year-old brother.
According to Tandra Simonton, spokesman for the State's Attorney's office, charges were filed on May 22 against 57-year-old Michael Roth, 7033 N. Kedzie Ave. Roth is being charged leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failure to file a report, a Class 2 felony, Simonton said.
