They opened Friday with a splash.But as CBS 2’s Vince Gerasole reports, swimmers will have to look out for some new flags this year, which will let the public decide if they want to swim at their own risk depending on bacteria levels in some cases.

Poles support undocumented immigrants
Medill- In the weeks following the huge May 1 immigration march in downtown Chicago, undocumented immigrants have garnered sympathy from one of Chicago's largest ethnic groups -- the Poles.

Miroslaw Dmochowski, a 49-year-old truck driver from Logan Square, is one of the 139,000 Polish immigrants living in the Chicago area, nearly one third of the Polish immigrants in the United States. Like many others in the area's large Polish community, Dmochowski, a legal permanent resident of the United States, said he is sympathetic to the plight of illegal immigrants. More....

Subsidized Rental Building Moves Ahead
Globe St.- Although the proposal has the support of the local alderman, 50th Ward Alderman Bernard Stone cast a rare “no” vote Thursday at the city council committee on zoning. “I don’t have to vote on this,” says Stone, who also cast a dissenting vote last week against revised plans for a multifamily rental tower in at Des Plaines and Kinzie streets. “We’re going back to the ‘50s and building what we’ve torn down; I’m not going backward.” More....
